----- Wahkeena Falls to Devils Rest
The trail where photos were taken is colored red.
This hike to Devils Rest begins in the Wahkeena Falls parking lot
Head west on the paved trail past this sign
The first quarter mile of the trail is paved
This is the first of many switchbacks to come
The trail is well maintained clear to the top of Devils Rest
You pass Wahkeena Falls as you climb
A look back as you pass
Now the trail begins to do some serious climbing
The switchbacks make the climb much easier
You can climb to Devils Rest almost anytime of year
The climb continues
The climb continues
The climb continues
There are even seats to rest on
There is a great viewpoint at the top of these first switchbacks
Looking upriver toward Table Mtn and Hamilton Mtn
You will cross Wahkeena Creek a couple more times as you climb
The climb continues
This bridge was destroyed a couple of winters ago
As it looks without the bridge
Wahkeena Creek provides beautiful cascades
Fairy Falls is one of the best in the gorge
A small footbridge crosses in front of the falls
An old trail marker still guides the way
On this hike I took the right hand option
The climb continues
A major intersection to Angels Rest or Devils Rest - Keep straight ahead
The intersections are well marked
The climb continues
A tree is devouring the old sign
The climb continues
Another major intersection - just keep to the right
Then the branch to Devils Rest
The trail is well marked - just keep to the right and begin climbing
The climb continues
Another half dozen switchbacks to go
The climb continues
The climb continues
Almost to the rim
At last you can see your goal - Devils Rest
The trail is quite level for a ways now with occasional views
The trail continues following the edge of the plateau
One of the occasional views of the Columbia River and the hills in Washington state
The trail continues
You can see the steepness on the right side of the trail
Another great view - Silver Star Mtn on the horizon
The trail continues
A small bridge crosses a seasonal stream
Now the reward - that’s where you came from
This viewpoint is the very best - Mt St Helens is barely visible
Mt Adams is left of center behind Table Mtn and Hamilton Mtn
Looking further east toward Augspurger Mtn and Nesmith to the right of center
This is the top of Devils Rest - aren't you glad for the earlier viewpoints?
The sign on the tree directs you to the Angels Rest trail - follow it
The begins a rapid loss of elevation
Intersection - bare right towards the Wahkeena Falls Trail
The trail is maintained by the Mazamas of Portland, Oregon
The photo looks worse than it is
The cutoff trail now joins the Angels Rest trail to Wahkeena - bare right
A small adequate bridge as you descend
The trail continues to descend quite rapidly
The trail continues
One of the occasional views - looking east up the Columbia River Gorge
The trail continues to descend
The trail continues to descend with occassional switchbacks
The trail continues to wind its way back to the Wahkeena Falls Trail
The trail continues
The trail now nears Wahkeena Creek
Here the trail crosses over Wahkeena Springs - the source of Wahkeena Creek
And the junction sign to the Wahkeena Falls trail you will follow back to your vehicle
