Wauna Point
The trail where photos were taken is colored red.
The Wauna Point Hike begins at the Wahclella Falls trail head parking area
You used to be able to drive the first couple miles, but no more....
Besides, the trail and hike are more fun anyway
Most of this hike is within heavily forested areas

Even in the beginning there are alot of switchbacks on this hike and alot of elevation gain

In the late spring and summer the trail can be overgrown in a couple areas...
The trail wanders beneath high power lines
Now it follows a service road for a bit

Now you join the road that you used to be able to drive on
There is a bit of a short-cut here... I took it on my return
Wauna Point Hike Photo # 13
You used to be able to drive to this point... but no more.
There is a small waterfall just off the trail as you begin your climb
Then there are a couple more small falls as you follow the creek for awhile
You cross the creek in front of this falls
And you begin to climb toward Tanner Ridge and Wauna Point
Soon you will cross under the high power lines again
You can see Munra Point from the power line clearing
Dogwood in bloom
Now the serious climbing begins up Tanner Ridge
There are a number of switchbacks that make the climb easier

You bear to the left and follow the faint trail toward Wauna Point

As you near the drop-off you will have more and more views of the surrounding mountains
Looking down where you will have to go to get to Wauna Point
Wauna Point Hike Photo # 33
This is why so few people hike this trail... what trail????
Keep in mind, you are loosing elevation quickly
That means you will have to gain it back to get out of here!!!
Glimpses of why this is worth it

Looking down-river toward Portland... notice Munra Point on the left

This is the end.... on the right.... dont walk out there unless you are brave AND experienced
