Okanogan National Forest
Cutthroat Lake and Cutthroat Pass Hike
<Return Home Page

This is one of the truely spectacular hikes in the Washington Pass Area. To reach the trailhead, just head north on State Hwy 20, toward Winthrop for about 5 miles. Forest Road #400 will be on your left. Follow this road for a mile and you will come to the parking area and trailhead for this adventure.

The hike begins at the trailhead on the northwest side of the parking area. The begins by crossing a bridge over Cutthroat Creek and then climbs gently up the valley toward Cutthroat Lake. One must stop by the lake on this hike to enjoy the beauty and take a rest. It is only a short distance off the trail up to Cutthroat Pass.

The trail climbs very steeply as it makes its way to the pass. Most of the climb is on the south slope of the mountain and the views just get better and better with each sweaty step you take.

In season the wildflowers are excellent, but in all seasons the views are world class.
