This is one of the interesting displays of geology and paleontology found in the beautiful John Day Fossil Bed National Monument.

This trail is called the Island in Time Trail. To hike to the end and back is about a mile. An optional hike is the Overlook Trail which is far more strenuous and about 3 miles in length.

There are placards along the way describing items of interest that add much to your walk through history. By the way, there are more metal bridges on this short hike than on any hike I've ever done. The trail criss-crosses the stream many many times.

Enjoy!!
