Coyote Wall - Labyrinth Trail

Looking east from the parking area for this hike
You begin this hike by following the old paved Hwy 14 west
Walk west about a quarter mile to this waterfalls
Continue west about another quarter mile
This is the first identifiable trail along the road that you come to
Follow this trail which will lead you to a couple excellent overlooks
The trail climbs through a series of small plateaus in the hillside
The trail travels in and out of small forested areas of mostly oak
There is alot of poison oak also along this trail - so use caution
As the trail climbs to yet another small plateau, you will pass a small cave

A glance to towards the eastern end of the Columbia River Gorge
As to climb along this trail, there will be short trails off to the right - and waterfalls
A Western Fence Lizard watches us go by
Looking down on the steepest and most difficult part of the hike - loose footing
Now the trail crosses the small stream that fed the waterfalls you just passed
Next you will walk below this interesting cliff
Remember, this hike is called the Labyrinth for a reason
The trail continues to climb
Here the trail climbs like a stairway for just a few feet
Then you walk beneath through this beautiful oak forest
As you climb through the forest the path is lined with bouquets of lupine
Looking back
Just about the exit the forest - bear right and follow the trail to an overlook
Just follow the users trail to the overlook
Looking up at the rocks beside you
This is the first overlook on the hike - looking east
Now the trail will take you to the left and around this small rocky area

Climbing through another small oak forest - leave the trail to the right here
Looking back
Follow a users trail to the right of these rocks
And this is your destination - Looking east up the Columbia River Gorge
Flowers are abundant in season
Trace your way back to the main trail and bare right uphill
The trail continues to climb steeply as it heads toward Catherine Creek
A glance back reveals Mt Hood in the distance
The trail continues to climb toward the tall pine tree
