This hike begins at the historic Barlow Pass trailhead. The hike follows the famous Pacific Crest Trail (Trail #2000) and gently climbs south for about a mile. Then after a gentle descent, you come to the junction with Trail #482. Bear left and follow Trail #482. Trail #482 continues to descend and in about a quarter mile you will come to the junction of a trail that leads to an area called the Devil's Half Acre.

You, however, continue along Trail #482 which descends further into a meadow area where you come to another junction. Bear left at this point and follow this short trail to the Palmateer Point viewpoint. In season, this area is covered with an abundance of wildflowers. This short little hike is a real jewel, especially when the snow is still deep on the higher trails and you are looking for a fun place to get in some late spring hiking.

The following images are random samples of the wildflowers found in the Mount Hood National Forest.
