The hike to Palmateer Point and the Twin Lakes can be accomplished from different trailheads. This hike begins at the historic Barlow Pass trailhead. The hike begins on the famous Pacific Crest Trail (Trail #2000) and gently climbs for about a mile. After a gentle descent, you come to the junction with Trail #482 which descends further into a meadow area where another junction takes you to the Palmateer Point viewpoint.

Returning to this junction, continue south about another mile to an outstanding viewpoint located just off the trail. The area is much traveled so easily identified. After this refreshing stop, continue on the trail to the edge of the first of the Twin Lakes.
Continue on Trail #495 to the lower Twin Lake. The trail then climbs around the north side of the lake to eventually junction with Trail #2000. Turn right at this point and continue back to Barlow Pass thus completing the loop.
